Home Inspections Can Be Stressful, but Don’t Have to Be
Home inspections can be stressful for the buyer and seller alike, but a qualified Real Estate Agent (Realtor) can help you through it no matter which side your are on.
Remember, it is the job of the inspector to find issues and report them. Some are major, some are minor, and many are strictly cosmetic.
What do you do when issues are reported? First, consult an expert. If the issue is with the electrical, consult a licensed electrician. Many of the items on the report may not be up to current code, but where when the home was built. While that doesn’t always mean that they can be “ignored” an expert can confirm.
Where do you find the “experts” that you need? What do you push to have fixed, negotiate, or choose to not worry about? These are all questions that your Realtor can assist with or at least point you in the right direction.
What if you are the seller? It can be stressful when a large report is produced about a home that you have been very comfortable in. Again, a Realtor can assist you through every step. If the house is older, or if you have major concerns, it might be worth having an inspection done before you put the house on the market for your peace of mind, and to give you time to resolve the major issues.
